Sadden to hear of the Fire at the Houston Pittie Pack House

We didn't know this family of rescues, but it still breaks our heart to hear about their story.

This is about the Houston Pittie Pack. It seems that their house caught on fire and was literally destroyed.  The humans of the family were able to escape, Thank God.  They lost everything except what they were wearing when they escaped. No time to grab anything. A couple neighbors helped with diapers for the human baby, and some food for the dogs that made it...

Which is where it gets even more heart breaking.  The Pittie Pack lost five of their seven rescue Pit Bulls.  As a a family with rescued pups, we were saddened beyond belief to hear of their loss. Momma still can't think of their loss, without tears coming to her eyes and giving Colossus and I extra hugs.
This all a week before Christmas. Of all the times... a time to be celebrating and being joyful and happy.. and it's full of sadness for this family. But, Not surprising in the least,  the dog blogging community is rallying.  This chip-in has been created by a very reliable source and will appear on a number of blogs.  All of the money will go to the family to help them buy the basics they need over the next few days.  If you are able, please click this link and help a fellow rescuer.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Thanksgiving 2011!

What is Thanksgiving without Food?? Even though we are Raw fed, we still get treats, and so Momma has compiled some "Thanksgiving" Treats to share! :D

Turkey Treats

2 cups cooked turkey -- cut up
4 teaspoons grated cheese
1 tablespoon parsley -- freshly chopped
2 egg
2 cups whole wheat flour
2 tablespoons brewer's yeast
2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Combine turkey, cheese, parsley and mix well.
Beat the eggs in a bowl and pour over turkey mixture.
Add the flour, yeast, and oil.
Stir until thoroughly mixed and all ingredients are coated.
Drop into small lumps onto ungreased cookie sheet.
Cook in a 350 degree oven for about 20 minutes, until brown and firm.
Store in refrigerator.

Stuffing Dog Treats  (this is a soft treat)

1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup plain bread crumbs
1 tbsp. dried parsley
2 cups pure pumpkin (not pie filling)
2 eggs, lightly beaten
4 ounce jar of turkey baby food, organic is best
1 cup of warm water

Preheat oven to 350° F
In a large bowl whisk together the flour, breadcrumbs, and dried parsley.
In a small bowl stir the pumpkin, eggs, turkey baby food, and warm water together until combined.
Make a well in the flour and pour in the turkey mixture.
Stir until combined. The mixture will be very moist.
Spray a baking sheet with non-stick baking spray.
Scoop turkey and stuffing dog treats with a 1 inch cookie scooper onto the baking sheet.
Bake for 30 minutes.
Turn off the oven and let sit for another 30 minutes.
Cool completely before serving.

Homemade Potato Balls
1 cups mashed potatoes
1 medium shredded carrot
1 egg yolk
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
With a fork, combine the mashed potatoes and shredded. Mix in egg yolk.
Form the potato mixture into about 2 dozen miniature balls.
Place potato balls on lightly greased cookie sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until lightly browned.
Let cool fully... then let your dog enjoy!

Sweet Potato Chew

1 Large Sweet Potato, washed & dried

Preheat oven to 250° F
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Cut off one side of the sweet potato lengthwise, as close to the edge as possible. Cutting the side of the potato first allows you to then turn the potato onto this flat surface that you have just created. Having a stable area to rest the potato will make it easier to cut the potato into slices. Don't discard that first piece, it comes out just as yummy as the rest!
Cut the rest of the potato into 1/3" slices, no smaller than 1/4".
Place them on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake for 3 hours, turning half way through.
Cool completely on a wire rack.

Storing :
Although these treats are dried, you will want to keep them in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks. You can freeze them for up to 4 months.

Green Beans

  • Preheat oven to 140 degrees F.
Spray cooking sheet with cooking spray.
Open and place green beans in single layer on cooking sheet.
Place green-bean cookie sheet on the middle shelf of the oven. Prop the oven door open two to three inches.
Test green beans' readiness in four hours. Green-bean treats will be ready when they are crisp and crunchy. Remove green beans that are ready and place them in a bowl for cooling.
Keep testing, removing and rotating every hour until all green beans are done.
When green beans that have been cooling reach room temperature, put in an airtight container.

    Pumpkin Carob Drop Dog Treats

One 15 oz. can mashed pure pumpkin. Such as Libby's.(not spiced)
3/4 cup cream of wheat (or rice cereal if your dog is sensitive to wheat)
    1/2 cup dry powdered milk
    Unsweetened Carob Chips
    Preheat oven to 300 F.
    Mix all ingredients together.
Using an inexpensive pastry bag (available at your grocery store) or a baggie with a corner cut off, make 1-1/2 to 2 inch swirls or rosettes onto a lightly greased cookie sheet.
In the center of each swirl drop a carob chip. Treats come out soft and slightly chewy.

Bake at 300 degrees for 15-20 minutes.

  • And there you have it...
everything for a Thanksgiving Feast! :D

Howl-O-Ween & The Silly Things Our Momma Dresses Us In...

Momma loves this time of year... mostly because it means she can dress us pups in silly things. She says she'd do it year round if she could, but because we are bigger dogs, most people don't think it's as cute as when little dogs are dressed up. Now, while I prefer to just wear my fur coat, I tolerate Momma putting me in silly things for pictures (and giggles.. YES! She actually giggles! )

This year she had a couple different outfits to put us into..

Yes, that is me.. dressed as a Lady Bug.
Momma had to bribe me with treats to get me to look at her.. BOL!

Then Momma put Coli into the squirrel outfit, because it is suppose to be his.. he was just too small last year to wear it.. BOL!

Coli wouldn't hold still for a picture of just him.. BOL!

Then, she ACTUALLY convinced Daddy that we NEEDED to get 2 more costumes each... and he went along with it!! Of all the peoples, I thought he'd be the one to stand up for us pups and not having to dress up... Nope. He caved and she got us two more outfits. And they go together!!!

Coli as The Big Blue Fish

I can NOT believe that Momma has me looking like a submarine!!

    Us together

Coli as the Headless Horseman's Siberian Horse!

I'm a pretty Princess's Unicorn. I don't mind the princess.. it's the stupid horn hat Momma made me wear. I look like a dork...

"Woo Woo Arr Woo" Means "Momma.. why do you insist on dressing us in silly things??"

So yeah.. Maybe she'll skip over Christmas things to dress us in, and wait a whole year... at least, we can hope right?

    K-9 Kamp! Introductions!

There is this GREAT thing called K-9 Kamp! It's our first day doing it, but it looks really really fun. It's a way for Momma to get more active, while interacting EVEN MORE with us pups!! So everyone involved gets to get into shape and have fun!

We skipped weeks 1 and 2 and started on week 3 (tug of war!) for today,  but Momma plans to start at the beginning tomorrow, and work our way through the weekly challenges. :D

    More To Come!

    Gotta get Momma trained again

So, I thought for sure I had Momma trained well.. I'd sit, and she'd give me my food in my bowl (if it fit, if not, she'd set it down).

Well, I started thinking.. what if I would sit any time I want.. just plop my strawberry blonde bottom onto the ground near my bowl. Momma would have to give me food right?

    Wrong! It didn't work!!

So then, I thought.. well, ok.. what if I lay next to my bowl and look really really hungry??
    I'm STARVING here!

But then Momma said "Tiki.. you can't really be hungry can you?"

    Well, not really.. I guess

So then Momma said it wasn't nice to play tricks...

I, Tiki, Promise not to try to trick Momma into thinking it's meal time when it's not

And this is all Colossus had to say about my behavior...
